 Nereus Announces Continued Expansion With Two New Personnel AppointmentsSan Diego, California - November 15, 2001 - Nereus Pharmaceuticals Inc., a pioneer in drug discovery and development from marine microbial sources, today announced the appointment of Kin Sing (Ray) Lam, Ph.D., as Director of Microbiology and Antonio D. Caso as Vice President, Corporate Development. "Dr. Lam and Mr. Caso bring to Nereus a wealth of experience in their respective fields," said Kobi Sethna, President and CEO of Nereus. "Dr. Lam's expertise in natural product research is an excellent fit for our drug discovery program based on the chemical diversity provided by marine microbiology. Equally valuable are Mr. Caso's strengths in business development. His ability to open doors to partnerships in the pharmaceutical industry will be important for our growth. We are delighted to have them both on-board." In his new capacity, Dr. Lam is responsible for all aspects of the Nereus marine microbiology laboratory and the company's anti-infective drug discovery program. He previously was senior principal scientist of the Lead Discovery Division of Bristol-Myers Squibb's Natural Products Department. In his 16 years at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Lam held senior positions in natural products research and biomolecular screening. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Calgary and an M.A. and B.A. in Chemistry from the State University of New York. Mr. Caso leads Nereus' strategic business planning and development efforts. A seasoned executive with broad-based general management and corporate business development experience, he brings to the company his strong industry contacts and business relationships with pharmaceutical companies in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. Prior to joining Nereus, Mr. Caso held senior executive positions in business operations with IBSA in Switzerland, Italfarmaco in Italy, and Ares Serono in Switzerland and the U.S.
