 Nereus Pharmaceuticals Appoints Frank V. Atlee to Board of DirectorsSan Diego, California - October 24, 2000 - Nereus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., an emerging leader in drug discovery and development, announced today the appointment of Frank V. AtLee to its board of directors, effective immediately. Mr. AtLee is chairman of the board of directors of Monsanto Company, a U.S. based multinational corporation that provides integrated technology-based agricultural solutions for growers and downstream customers in agricultural markets. Previously, Mr. AtLee served as president of American Cyanamid Company and chairman of Cyanamid International. Mr. AtLee was a member of the board of directors of American Cyanamid Company and currently serves as a director of Takeda Italia Farmaceutici S.p.A. "Having completed its state of the art new pharmaceutical laboratory, Nereus is poised to accelerate its drug discovery efforts from proprietary microbial sources. Simultaneously, Nereus is rapidly advancing its lead oral TNF-àlpha synthesis inhibitor," said Jean Delage, Managing General Partner of Alta Partners. "Mr. AtLee brings to Nereus over 25 years of general management experience at the highest levels, particularly as it relates to drug discovery and pharmaceutical product development.
