Gary Shearman, Ph.D.
Chairman
Dr. Shearman is a seasoned pharmaceutical industry executive and
biopharmaceutical venture capitalist. He has extensive global
research and drug development leadership experience in multiple
therapeutic areas and venture capital investing in a variety of
private and public biotech, medtech and diagnostic companies. Dr.
Shearman was responsible for creating and implementing global drug
development and regulatory strategies resulting in over twenty
regulatory submissions and product approvals on a worldwide basis in
major markets such as the United States, the European Union and
Japan. He reengineered global drug development operations achieving
highly competitive drug development times and quality and he managed
diverse research and drug development functions located in various
countries.
Between 2001 and 2007, Dr. Shearman served as Chairman and Managing
Director of HBM Advisors USA, LLC, a provider of advisory services
for HBM Partners (Cayman) Ltd, the investment manager for all HBM
investment vehicles including HBM BioVentures and HBM BioCapital,
holding companies in the human medicine, biotechnology and medical
technology industries.
From 1998 until 2000, Dr. Shearman was Deputy Head of Global
Research and Drug Development and Senior Vice President of Global
Drug Development at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (now Sanofi/Aventis). He was
responsible for ensuring the global implementation of the corporate
product strategy and coordinated all R&D, marketing and
manufacturing activities related to two blockbuster oncology drugs (Taxotere
& CPT-11) and the low molecular weight heparin, Lovenox.
From 1994 until 1998, Dr. Shearman was Senior Vice President of
Pharmaceutical Drug Development for Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. He oversaw
all drug development and regulatory activities worldwide and
directed departments with a consolidated annual budget of
approximately $450 million.
Dr. Shearman was Director Regulatory International Affairs
(1989-1992) and Associate Director Clinical Neurosciences (1987 -
1988) for Merck & Co. From 1983 until 1987, he worked for Sandoz
(now Novartis) in drug discovery and as a project leader for central
nervous system (CNS) products.
Dr. Shearman received a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences and an MS
in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Rhode Island
and a BA in psychology from the University of Massachusetts. Gary
was a post-doctoral fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for
Psychiatry in Munich, Germany (1980-1982). He was a member of the R
& D advisory board for the Center Medicines Research Institute and
Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development.
Dr. Shearman has been a member of the Board of Directors of
ChemoCentryx, Innodia, and Neuro-Hitech. He currently serves on the
Board of Directors of Artisan Pharma.

Jean Deleage
Dr. Deleage is a managing general partner of Alta Partners, a spin-off
from Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co. He has been an investor in biopharmaceutical
and high technology companies since 1971. He founded Sofinova, a
venture capital organization in Paris, France, and in 1976 became
president of Sofinova, Inc., in the United States. He currently
serves on the boards of Flamel Technologies, Aclara Biosciences
and Telik, Inc., as well as many private companies.
Dr. Deleage received a master's degree in electrical engineering
from the Ecole Superieure d'Electricite and a doctorate in economics
from the Sorbonne. In 1993, he was awarded the Legion of Honor from
the French government.
Jason Fisherman, M.D.
Dr. Fisherman joined Advent International in 1994 and has led or
co-led Advent’s investments in over 20 companies. He is currently
a board member of Achillion Pharmaceuticals Inc., Anadys Pharmaceuticals
Inc., Cellzome AG, Crucell NV, Exelixis Inc., ILEX Oncology Inc.,
Neurogenetics Inc. and Oridion Systems Ltd. He has 10 years of venture
capital experience and nine years of drug research and clinical
development experience.
Prior to Advent, Dr. Fisherman was senior director of medical research
at Enzon, where he managed clinical programs in oncology, genetic
diseases and blood substitutes. Previously, at the National Cancer
Institute, he was responsible for developing a portfolio of anticancer
drugs, including Taxol. While a research fellow at Dana Farber Cancer
Institute, he focused on the regulation of gene transcription and
molecular oncology.
Dr. Fisherman received a bachelor’s degree in molecular biophysics
and biochemistry from Yale, an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania
and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
Standish M. Fleming
A 16-year veteran of early stage investing, Mr. Standish Fleming
co-founded Forward Ventures as a venture capital investment firm.
Throughout his career at Forward Ventures, Mr. Fleming has served
as acting president of Triangle Pharmaceuticals, Actigen , GenQuest
and CombiChem. He was a founding board member of Ciphergen Biosystems,
Gryphon Sciences and Triangle Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Fleming is a
former president of the Biotechnology Venture Investors' Group.
Mr. Fleming now serves as a director of Acorda, Arizeke, Ambit,
Nereus, Kemia, Converge and Sanarus.
He earned his bachelor's in arts from Amherst College and master's
in business administration from the UCLA Graduate School of Management.

Erich Platzer, MD
Dr. Platzer is an investment advisor with HBM Partners, advisors to HBM
BioVentures in Zurich, Switzerland. Previously he was head of oncology at Roche.
He has over 10 years of operating experience in product development and
marketing. Dr. Platzer also practiced as a physician and researcher for numerous
years and was a member of the team that first purified G-CSF (Neupogen). He
graduated from the Medical School of the University of Erlangen, where he also
received his PhD. He is currently Vice Chairman of MTM Laboratories, and serves
on the Board of Cylene, Locus, and ProBiodrug.
Jesper Zeuthen, D.Sc
Professor Zeuthen is the managing director of the management company
BI Technology A/S within the BankInvest Group, seven different
venture funds focusing on biotech drug development raised in the
period 1998-2006 and with more than 30 portfolio companies in Europe
and in the USA, the two companies acting as general partners of
these venture funds and Kuros Holding ApS. He was previously Head of
Research & Development at Novo Nordisk A/S and Head of Research at
the Danish Cancer Society. Professor Zeuthen I Chairman of the Board
of Borean Pharma ApS, Vice-Chairman of the Danish Biotechnology
Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC) and substitute member of the
Board of CMC Biopharmaceuticals A/S. He has previously been a member
of the Board of Directors of Genmab A/S (Chairman), Roche Bio
Denmark A/S (Chairman), Santaris Pharma A/S (Chairman), Zymenex
Holding A/S (Chairman), Fibrogen Europe Oy and BioVision A/S.
Professor Zeuthen is the author of more than 200 publications on
immunology, cell biology and molecular biology and is an adjunct
professor of biotechnology at the University of Copenhagen.

Frank V. AtLee
Mr. AtLee is retired chairman and CEO of Monsanto Company, a U.S.-based
multinational corporation that provides integrated technology-based
agricultural solutions for growers and downstream customers in agricultural
markets. Previously, he was president and a board member of American
Cyanamid Company, a research-based life sciences company involved
with the discovery and development of medical and agricultural products,
and chairman of Cyanamid International.
Mr. AtLee has served on the boards of trustees of Ramapo College
of New Jersey and the Foundation of the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey. He is currently a director of Antigenics
Inc., a publicly traded biotechnology company based in New York
City. He has served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr.
AtLee is a graduate of Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia,
where he obtained a bachelor's of science degree in chemistry and
biology.
Martin Rosenberg, Ph.D.
Dr. Martin Rosenberg is currently the Chief Scientific Officer of the Promega Corporation,
Madison, WI. He joined Promega after retiring in 2001 as Senior Vice President of
Anti-Infectives Drug Discovery and Development at GlaxoSmithKline. He spent 20 years in
the SmithKline R&D Organization and served as Senior Vice President in R&D since 1993.
Dr. Rosenberg serves on the Board of Directors for the Promega Corporation, Madison, WI;
the Medical College of Wisconsin Research Foundation, Milwaukee, WI; Nereus Pharmaceuticals,
Inc., San Diego, CA; Anacor Pharmaceuticals, Palo Alto, CA; and Scarab Genomics, Madison, WI.
He also serves on a variety of academic and industry Scientific Advisory Boards and holds an
adjunct Professorship at the University of Wisconsin, Department of Bacteriology, Madison, WI.
Dr. Rosenberg is Editor-in-Chief of Current Opinions in Biotechnology, a Section Editor of
the Journal of Bacteriology and a member of several other journal Editorial Boards.
Before joining SmithKline Pharmaceutical R&D he spent 10 years at the National Institutes
of Health and was a Section Chief in the National Cancer Institute. He has served as a
member of the Executive Council for the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Disease
as well as a member of the Science Advisory Board of the FDA. He has been awarded the
Arthur S. Fleming Award, the Panlabs Award in Microbiology, and the Distinguished Alumni
Award from Purdue University. Dr. Rosenberg received his Ph.D. from Purdue and his
postdoctoral training at Yale Medical School. He has published more than 200 papers
and is the named inventor on more than 50 issued patents.
